Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Special Education or related fields required, advanced study preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of classroom experience is preferred.
- Strong background in exceptionalities, curriculum and special education interventions and strategies.
- Active and valid PA Instructional Certification.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, computer and organizational skills to develop contacts and presentations for the needs of the staff and students or the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit and member districts.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and disseminate information on research-based best practices and interventions for use with all students.
- Adapt, modify, and align existing school district curriculum to meet the needs of students or specific populations.
- Facilitate teams using data-based, decision-making models.
- Provide workshops and consultations to develop and expand district skills in curriculum, i.e., modifying the list of instructional objectives in terms of methods and materials, as well as the procedures for evaluation.
- Maintain and disseminate up-to-date information on Federal and State regulations, standards, statutes, and other requirements.
- Provide technical assistance, training, guided practice, and consultation to school districts, intermediate units, families, and local agencies in one or more of the following as appropriate:
- Positive behavioral support
- o Inclusive Practices: Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (Rt I) - Academics
- Response to Intervention (RtI)
- Autism
- Progress Monitoring
- Adaptation of Curriculum Alignment/Mapping and Materials for core content subjects.
- Interagency Coordination/Transition
- Assistive Technology
- Procedural Safeguards/LRE
- Standards-based IEPs
- PA data tools
- Data informed decision making and root cause analysis

- Perform other duties as directed by the immediate Supervisor.

- Knowledge of state and federal law that impacts on special education operations within the IU, as well as content, curriculum, methods, materials and policies of the schools in which staff supervised are assigned.

- Must be able to travel to and from IU sites and other sites within Pennsylvania.

Method of Evaluation:
- Annual evaluations made by the Director of Special Education and/or their designee in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Terms of Employment:
- 185 day teachers’ calendar.
- Ten (10) month year with ability to adjust the scheduling with approval by the Director of Special Education or their designee to meet requests of services by districts and IU administration. Receives benefits as per the negotiated agreement between the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and the Bargaining Unit

- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
