The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 is seeking a part-time English as a Second Language Program Instructor.

 

Qualifications:           

Minimum –  Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a PA Instructional I or II Certification.

Preferred- Program Specialist ESL Certificate or commitment to complete Program Specialist ESL certificate requirements  

 

Responsibilities

  1. Create a cultural awareness and knowledge of multicultural and multilingual learners and families.
  2. Understand and implement the current methods and techniques based on Teachers of English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) principles in working with culturally and linguistically diverse students/families.
  3. Possess a knowledge of various cultures, and their comparisons, as related to our communities, businesses, languages, education, etc.
  4. Facilitate the English Language Learner’s (ELL) family understanding of and collaboration with ESL and other school staff.
  5. Possess knowledge and deliver the required, extensive family involvement opportunities to assist in the development of the English Language Learner’s projected service plan. 
  6. Develop, implement and evaluate a variety of curricular and instructional activities for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  7. Implement the adaptations required for learners with diverse needs. 
  8. Use computer technology and graphics to facilitate ELL student learning.
  9. Assist ELL students to learn communications methods and practices to assist their verbal and non-verbal understanding, skills and attitudes.
  10. Provide meaningful learning content to support the English Language Learners’ culture and community diversity.
  11. Select and design teaching resources and lesson plans based on individual differences of language proficiency and the dominant language testing of English Language Learners.
  12. Employ various communications, instructional methods and strategies to meet specific instructional needs of English Language Learners in their learning process.
  13. Provide and strengthen opportunities to permit students to work collaboratively in small groups. 
  14. Develop the capacity to design and develop ELL programs and service plans to teach language through use of content, connections and community concepts.
  15. Use effective measurements of the English Language Learners’ success in language acquisitions and content learning.
  16. Understand and implement multiple evaluation techniques to assess the various curricular and instructional activities used for the ELL students.
  17. Assess the school’s support services aiding the English Language Learners’ requirements.
  18. Provide regular parental involvement in working with the interpretation and assessment of the ELL child’s accomplishments and needs.
