The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 is looking to fill 2 positions for a Speech and Language Therapist in the Early Intervention Department. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Clinical Speech and Audiology.
  • A valid certificate to teach in the area of speech and language in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • To assess, develop and implement instructional programs for all early intervention preschool aged students identified to receive speech and language. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and develop individualized educational programs for early intervention students with speech and language disorders.
  • Establish speech and language screen programs for the identification of early intervention children with suspected speech and language needs.
  • Conduct in-depth individual assessments of speech and language needs necessary for the development and evaluation of individualized educational program plans.
  • Assist in the referral of pupils with speech and language needs to recognized agencies necessary to obtain diagnostic information for comprehensive educational planning.
  • Counsel and assist parents/guardians of identified children with speech and language needs in preparing individualized educational programs and the available safeguards.
  • Serve as a consultant to school personnel and administration in all educational matters pertaining to speech and language impaired early intervention students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, other school staff and parents to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  • Participate in transition to preschool and transition to kindergarten meetings as assigned.
  • Provide either direct or indirect instruction programs for students with suspected or confirmed speech and language problems.
  • Provide information, coaching, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate data collection and documentation so as to fully evaluate and substantiate program and pupil progress.
  • Comply with federal, state and local laws, standards, regulations and policies pertaining to the early intervention students.
  • Complete all required paperwork via HCSIS, STAR, ACCESS billing, and progress monitoring reporting within required timelines.
  • Prepare daily and weekly schedules of instructional activities that support the needs of the children.
  • Participate in planning sessions necessary for effective programming and material selection for speech and language early intervention students.
  • Comply with policies set forth by the Intermediate Unit pertaining to program operation.
  • Participate in parent conferences required to prepare IEP’s, attend the Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings as necessary and attend due process hearing as directed by the administration.
  • Be responsible for preparing requisitions and inventories required for selecting and maintaining instructional equipment and materials.
  • Maintain a continuing self-educational program designed to become acquainted with current research, practices and procedures so as to maintain the best instructional program for speech and language impaired early intervention students.
